NIIT’s Rajendra S Pawar named ‘Delhi Ratna’ by PHDCCI

New Delhi. September 10, 2005: NIIT Chairman Mr Rajendra S Pawar today received PHDCCI’s prestigious ‘Delhi Ratna Award’ in recognition of his contribution to the economic development of the State from Hon’ble Chief Minister of Govt of NCT of Delhi, Smt Sheila Dikshit. Mr Pawar received the award at PHDCCI Centenary Celebrations Programme held at PHD House in New Delhi today.

Mr Pawar is the Chairman and co-founder of the NIIT Group that pioneered IT Training and Education in the Indian sub-continent and has emerged to become a renowned global player with undisputed leadership in the entire of Asia Pacific region.

Recognising the need for skilled IT manpower way back in 1981, Mr Pawar pioneered the computer education market in India, thus creating a completely new industry segment and taking it to consolidation and maturity.

Mr. Pawar has played a leadership role in nurturing NIIT and building it into Asia’s largest IT education and knowledge corporation. Spearheading NIIT’s globalization endeavors, he has helped the company establish a presence in 30 countries.

Actively involved in India’s key Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Pawar has been a Founder Member and Past President of MAIT (Manufacturers’ Association of Information Technology) and a Founder Member of NASSCOM (the National Association of Software & Service Companies). He is currently Chairman of the HR Committee of CII (the Confederation of Indian Industry) and a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum.

Acknowledging his pioneering and entrepreneurial work in the education and software sectors, global Business Intelligence firm, Ernst & Young conferred on Mr. Pawar its prestigious Master Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1999. His contributions to the IT industry in India have also earned him the IT man of the Year award instituted by IT industry journal, Dataquest.

Mr. Pawar’s vision has also enabled NIIT to emerge as a leading brand in the country. The UK-based Superbrands Council, an independent authority on branding, ranked NIIT Limited among the 101 strongest brands in India. The Council has also bestowed the Business Superbrands ranking on NIIT Technologies, the software business of the NIIT Group in the same year.
