New Delhi, January 23, 2010: NIIT Limited, the leading Global Talent Development Corporation has posted consolidated net revenues of Rs. 283.6 Cr, representing a growth of 2% YoY, for the quarter ending December 31, 2009. The company’s system-wide revenue stood at Rs. 396.5 Cr, up 2% YoY.

In this quarter, the company recorded Profit After Tax of Rs 9.5 Cr compared to Rs 5.5 Cr for the same period last year, representing 74% growth YoY. The results were taken on record at the meeting of the Board of Directors here today.

Individual Learning Solutions – IT recorded 11% growth in net revenue YoY and 22 % growth in enrolments.

In this quarter, NIIT entered into strategic alliance with SAP to offer training programs to prepare SAP consultants in the world-leading business software, Enterprise Resource Planning and related applications provided by SAP. The company also forged an alliance with IBM to offer cutting edge training programs on IBM technologies.

School Learning Solutions with an order intake of Rs. 73.8 crores grew 197% YoY. During the quarter NIIT added 641 schools, reflecting repeat orders from the states of Gujarat, Assam and Andhra Pradesh and also a strong response from private schools.

NIIT held multi city seminars on “De-stressing learning environment in Schools: Role of technology”, to emphasise the need for identifying right IT Learning tools for children, to bring back the joy of learning. During the seminars NIIT showcased its flagship NIIT eGuru suite of products which consist of a holistic education package that addresses the needs of all key stakeholders within the education realm—Students, Teachers, School management and Parents, with a single solution.

Finance & Management Training (FMT) Solutions witnessed a decisive upturn in demand through tie-ups with KPMG to offer IFRS program and IAMAI for Advanced program in Digital marketing. During this quarter, NIIT Imperia announced its 7th Academic Partner- IMI Delhi, for delivering management programs.

Corporate Learning Solutions (CLS) recorded a growth of 13 % YoY in order intake.
With fresh order intake during the quarter at USD 34.7 Mn, CLS closed the quarter with a pending order book of USD 89.3 million, up 10% YoY. During the quarter CLS witnessed growth in Learning products and Training Outsourcing segments in the US and in Government and Corporate Training segments in India. The Business Unit also added four significant customers during this period.

KPMG and NIIT Imperia collaborate to launch Advanced Certificate Program on IFRS

  • Certificate programs will help companies and individuals to transition from Indian GAAP to IFRS.
  • The program commenced on December 2nd 2009.

KPMG in India in collaboration with NIIT Imperia announced the launch of Advanced Certificate Program on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The six week Certificate program which commenced on 2 December 2009 is designed to assist companies and individuals on the forthcoming convergence from Indian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

The program will see KPMG's senior professionals use NIIT's modern virtual classroom formats to deliver the training. The training will be conducted simultaneously across several cities using NIIT's Synchronous Learning Technology. This well paced program is designed for better understanding and absorption of the transition process and will help the practising and on-job professional in implementing IFRS smoothly and on time.

The six week Advanced Certificate Program will enable Indian corporates to swiftly move towards IFRS and further ascertain it as a common language for accounting and financial reporting. By 2011, more than 150 countries are expected to adopt IFRS, including countries like India, China, Brazil and South Korea. The SEBI has already announced a proposal that may soon allow Indian listed companies the option to prepare consolidated accounts under IFRS Instead of Indian GAAP. Several Indian companies, from both the public and the private sector have already started preparing IFRS consolidated financial statements to see the impact on numbers, convergence effort, impact on systems, processes and related areas.

NIIT and IBM have entered into a global alliance to offer cutting edge training programs in IBM technologies.

Through this strategic partnership, NIIT will offer training programs on IBM’s CEIS (Career Education in IBM Software) framework, customized for NIIT. Initially training will be offered on Curriculum from the Rational Brand that deals with software testing and quality assurance. The partnership will be extended in successive phases to other platforms of IBM like: Database Administration, E- Business System Administration, Enterprise Collaboration and Enterprise IT Management.

NIIT will offer these training programs across key markets in India. The courses will be offered as modular skill-building programs as well as specialized job-oriented diploma programs. These highly-specialized training courses will be offered across 100 NIIT centres within a year. In the next phase, these courses will also be offered in Asia- Pacific countries.

As per industry reports, the worldwide market for computer software and systems testing services is projected to reach USD 56 billion by 2013. India is emerging as a leader in the software testing market with more and more companies outsourcing their software testing services to India. Edward Trolley becomes Vice President of Managed Training Services Practice

In conjunction with its recent announcement of a new Managed Training Services offering, NIIT announced the appointment of Edward Trolley as the Vice President of Managed Training Services Practice.

Mr. Trolley is widely recognized for having started the training outsourcing industry when he orchestrated the first comprehensive training outsourcing deal between DuPont and The Forum Corporation in 1993. Mr. Trolley has orchestrated more comprehensive training outsourcing relationships than anyone else.

Mr. Trolley received his B.S. in Management Science from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Trolley is co-author of the book, Running Training Like A Business: Delivering Unmistakable Value, published by Berrett-Koehler. He also is a contributing author to two ASTD published books, Building Learning Capability Through Outsourcing and Lies About Learning. Custom Course earns 2009 Gold Award for Excellence in E-Learning

NIIT was awarded the Gold for Excellence in E-Learning in the 2009 Learning in Practice Awards from Chief Learning Officer Magazine for the second consecutive year.

NIIT was honored specifically for its custom e-Learning course developed for Diageo. Diageo leveraged NIIT’s award winning Critical Mistake Analysis Methodology to develop the course which has returned its investment back to the organization in just 90 short days. The solution, which is just one component of NIIT’s Managed Training Services portfolio, enabled Diageo to quickly and efficiently train new hires on systems and procedures thereby decreasing service desk calls and improving employee productivity.

The National level winners of the NIIT MindChampions Academy (MCA) were felicitated by World Chess Champion and NIIT MindChampion Viswanathan Anand at the Grand finale of Chess Master 2009 at Gandhinagar. Shri Ashok Chandulal Bhatt, Hon’ble Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Aditya Chakraborty from Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Kolkata, West Bengal was adjudged as the National level winner of the NIIT MindChampions Academy - Chess Master 2009. Bappi Deb from Teliamura Higher Secondary School, Tripura, was the runner up.

NIIT MindChampions Academy is a joint initiative by NIIT, a leading Global Talent Development Corporation and Asia’s largest IT Trainer, and World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand to initiate young minds into the World of Chess.

This year NIIT MindChampions Academy has witnessed participation of over 4.5 Lakh students from across the country in the Chess Master 2009. There have been 6282 clubs actively playing chess since April 2009 to compete for the Chess Master 2009 title. The aim has been to go green this year and the complete implementation, monitoring, playing has been done electronically under the supervision of faculties from NIIT

At the National Finals of the NIIT MindChampions Academy Chess Master 2009, the winners of each Zone - South, East, North and West, vied for the coveted Chess Master 2009 title. Priya Soni from Government Higher Secondary School, Kawardha and Manan Shah from SVDD School, Mumbai represented the West Zone; Aditya Chakraborty from Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Kolkata and Bappi Deb from Teliamura Higher Secondary School, Tripura represented the East Zone, the South Zone was represented by Goutham S from Geetanjali Vidyalaya , Bangalore and Jagu Rajesh from ZPH School, Chebrolu, East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh; while Pawan Jeet from Govt. Junior High School, Sadarpur, Noida and Tejas Arora from Springdales Senior School Amritsar represented the North Zone. The zonal winners also got an opportunity to play Chess with the Chess Champion, Viswanathan Anand.

In response to an online survey conducted by MCA this year, over 8000 children have mentioned that Chess has helped them perform better in academics, especially in Science and Mathematics. The game developed their patience and understanding, motivating children to take up chess before school hours or during the breaks.

NIIT organized seminars on ‘De-stressing learning environment in Schools: Role of technology’ in Lucknow and Varanasi. The seminars were attended by prominent school principals and educationists of these cities. NIIT also announced the launch of their eGuru service provider in these territories to take ‘NIIT eGuru’ suite of solutions to schools.

The Lucknow seminar had prominent educationists like Mr. Rakesh Mittal, Retd IAS Officer & President Colvin Talukedar Inter College, and Mr. Ranjeev Raghavan, Principal Jaipuria Inter College. Varanasi seminar had well-known educationists like Mr. Pradeep Ghosh of Delhi Public School and Dr. Ranjan Roy of Dayawati Modi Academy. These eminent personalities in the field of Education and Learning talked about the role of technology in reducing the stress related to learning in schools.

During the seminar the speakers emphasized on the rapidly changing learning habits of students in today’s world and the challenges that teachers and the school have to face to cater to the learning needs of such children. It was also observed that though technology has a very important role to play in de-stressing the learning environment yet it is more important to evaluate the most appropriate technology before adopting one.

During the seminar NIIT also showcased futuristic eGuru suite of school solutions to the participants. Company’s business partner- ‘eGuru Service Provider’, will help in taking these solutions to schools in Lucknow and Varanasi and also service them over the contractual period. NIIT announced partnership with Government of Karnataka (Department of Social Welfare (DSW), Karnataka Vocational Training & Skill Development Corporation Ltd. (KVSTDC) & Department of Employment and Training (DET)) to provide eLearning to young under-graduates residing in the hostels of the Department of Social Welfare. Under this unique agreement NIIT will setup E-learning labs to the hostel inmates, thus enabling skill development of the youth at the doorstep of the Government Hostels.

NIIT will be offering a large catalogue of E-Learning packages on categories including Soft Skills and Basic IT Skills, Sales Courses, Customer Service Courses, Desk Top Publishing Courses, Computer Networking Courses and Web Designing Courses. With this partnership NIIT E-Learning packages could be accessible to youth residing in over 300 hostels in a phased manner as targeted by DSW, KVSTDC & DET for this year.

The vision of this project is to enable the students in the Government hostels to use their free time to enhance their skill sets by acquiring some of the soft skills and life skills that are required in most job areas, and in the process providing the latest learning technologies at the student’s door-step. As a result of their enhanced skill level increase the employability of the students and make them market ready to compete for employment opportunities. Additionally, students will get an opportunity to complete a primer course on some of the MES modules across skills.

The program will be delivered via technology in a self-study mode. Students will be given a window of approximately 12 weeks to complete the program.
