DEAR PREETI,
My son has just completed his 12th standard. He believes just a graduation degree is sufficient in these days of booming job opportunities and is confident that he will get a job immediately after graduation. Hence, he wants to pursue his bachelors in arts which he believes is the easiest. But I am unsure if just a graduation degree is sufficient for long term career growth. Please let me know as I want to give him the best advice.
GAUTAM VED, DELHI

DEAR GAUTAM,
It is nice to know that as a father you are taking keen interest in your son’s career. Your doubt is absolutely legitimate. Today’s competitive environment requires a well-prepared professional ready to take on the work from day one. Which is why a dual qualification becomes a means to overcome the competition. Ambitious students often combine an undergraduate degree with additional qualification.

One such winning combination is that of a graduation degree with a GNIIT Global certification.

The program will help to develop industry-relevant professional skills and open up avenues for the student not just in IT but also in other industries.

Dear Preeti,
I’m not an engineering student, but I really want a career in IT. My family and friends keep telling me to do something else because they believe IT is only meant for engineering students. Are they correct?
Deepak Mehta, by e-mail.

Dear Deepak,
Not at all my friend, not at all!.
If you look at the NASSCOM Strategic Review which analyses national and global industry trends, you’ll find that more than 8,50,000 IT jobs will emerge by 2009-2010 .
Which means, that by the time you graduate, you might find yourself in a situation where you can actually have several IT jobs to choose from. This forecast is based on the trends that have been observed over the past few years.

All you need are the latest skills and international certifications. Plus you need training which will make you an ‘industry-ready’ professional. It doesn’t really matter what your educational background is. What matters is your IT qualifications. So go right ahead and aim for the IT industry.
