| LINARES,
MARCH 7: Viswanathan
Anand played a 29-move draw with Alexander Morozevich but
still maintained a half-point lead over the field after round
11 of the Morelia-Linares Super Grandmasters chess tournament.
The Indian star, who defeated Magnus Carlsen for the second
time in tenth round, is being followed closely by Carlsen,
who scored a fine win with an extraordinary performance against
veteran Vassily Ivanchuk, who was totally outplayed.
Anand remained in sole lead
on seven points out of a possible 11 after an easy draw with
Morozevich. Ivanchuk, Peter Svidler of Russia and Levon Aronian
of Armenia are in joint third spot on 5.5 points. Anand has
two of his remaining three games with white.
Anand and Moro were involved
in a Queen’s Indian. Moro decided to avoid any theoretical
clashes in well-known areas, where Anand has a great track
record. He decided to take a little-known route which could
possibly have given him an advantage.
He attempted to take the game
into a Catalan with his (White) chances for an advantage being
bases on the weakness of the light squares from Black's queenside.
Moro tried to displace Anand’s rooks with an exchange
before castling. But with Anand giving no chances, Moro could
not find any way to move forward. Ultimately they drew in
29 moves.
It was another day with just
one decisive game. Carlsen was the star with a memorable triumph
against the former world championship finalist. It was a good
comeback for Carlsen after losing to Anand in the previous
round. Carlsen won in a 35-move Gruenfeld Botvinnik
There are three more rounds
to go in the eight-player double round robin tournament held
at Morelia in Mexico and Linares.

share the last spot on 4.5 points apiece.
