Anand defeated Michael Adams to reach the finals NIIT students welcomed Anand on his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Dec 29, 2000 Viswanathan Anand, the World Chess Champion and NIIT Brand Ambassador, was given an enthusiastic welcome by over 250 NIIT students in Delhi when he came here for an informal interaction with them. The students carrying placards eulogising the King of Chess, cheered Anand with slogans like 'East or West, Vishy is the best' on his arrival at a function organised by NIIT.
            
NIIT Chairman, Mr Rajendra S Pawar with Viswanathan Anand at the felicitation ceremony of World Chess Championship 2000 on December 29, 2000 Anand gave an inspirational talk on his journey from a child prodigy to the World Champion. Using a chess base program, he explained to the students the finer nuances of the game and how computers can be used as an important tool in approaching the game of chess. The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the grandmaster. The highlight of the day was of course, the announcement of the winners of the 'Vish & Win' contest run by NIIT where hundreds of thousands Anand well-wishers wished the Grandmaster luck through the 2000-plus NIIT centres spread across India. The lucky winners Priti Pawaskar, Partha Prathim Chaudhari, Paramjeet Kaur and Harinder Sachdeva walked away with exciting prizes like - a trip to Spain, multimedia PCs and VCDs.
