For the first quarter ending June 30, 2005, NIIT Limited and its subsidiaries have reported a consolidated net profit of Rs. 13.1 crores, representing a growth of 21% YoY. This has resulted in a basic EPS of Rs 6.8 on each share of Rs. 10 for the quarter.
The Operating Profit has grown 11% to Rs 14.3 crores, leading to a improvement in the Operating Margin to 13.4% this quarter versus 12.3% for FY 2004-05.
Global System-wide revenues of Rs. 169.5 crores represent a 12% increase
YoY. The consolidated net revenues of NIIT and its subsidiaries have gone
up 10% YoY to touch Rs. 106.4 crores.
Commenting on NIIT Limited’s Q1 performance, NIIT Chairman
Mr. Rajendra S. Pawar said, “Business volumes and operating efficiencies have improved in all segments, leading to a 21% improvement in net profit.”
The results were taken on record at the meeting of the Board of Directors of NIIT Limited here today.
Of the global revenues of Rs. 169.5 crores, NIIT’s overseas operations contributed 53%, with India making up the remaining 47%. While the Individual Learning segment contributed 52% to the overall revenues, the Corporate and the Institutional segments accounted for 29% and 19% respectively.
Career Enrolments grow 15% in India
After the successful placement of the pilot batch of Engineering and IT students, NIIT extended its specialized education programs for this segment to more centres during the quarter. The new programs provided crucial advanced technology skills to Engineering and IT students, thus preparing them for global careers in software and emerging technology areas. For non-engineering graduates, NIIT’s industry endorsed GNIIT program garnered wider acceptance and greater coverage.
Among the international geographies, China grew the fastest, recording 40% YoY growth. NIIT offered cutting-edge IT programs in 25 provinces in China.
Talking about the growth of IT career programs in India, Mr. Vijay K Thadani, Chief Executive Officer, NIIT Limited said, “We saw a 15% growth in the career enrolments, driven by increased acceptance of NIIT’s career programs by the employer industry as well as the student community.”
According to the Dataquest annual survey, NIIT significantly strengthened its position in the IT Training sector by growing faster than the industry. NIIT’s increased market share of 31% made it almost thrice the size of the second largest player and 1.5 times bigger than the combined revenues of the next 6 players.
Pending Order Book at Rs 266 crores
A healthy order intake for the Knowledge Solutions business from the USA in the higher education, technology and corporate segments contributed significantly to the total Corporate and Institutional order intake of Rs. 101 crores. The pending order book as on June 30, 2005 stood at Rs 266 crores, 49% of which is executable over the next 12 months.
NIIT’s Institutional business won new orders for offering computer education in 210 government schools in Himachal Pradesh and for training in 230 government schools in Assam.
Talking about NIIT’s offerings for the school segment, Mr. P. Rajendran, Chief Operating Officer, NIIT Limited said, “A fresh order from the Himachal Pradesh government, and the new order from Assam for NIIT’s K-12 solutions, reinforces the superiority of our offerings in this space.”
