NIIT Limited (NSE: NIITLTD), a global leader in skills and talent development, today reported its results for the second quarter ending September 30, 2017. During the quarter, the company recorded a PAT of Rs. 12.7 Cr, up 18% YoY and a Net Revenue of Rs. 208.4 Cr. EBITDA was at Rs. 17.8 Cr, reflecting an EBITDA Margin of 9%. Net debt was recorded at Rs. 45.9 Cr.

The results were taken on record at the meeting of the Board of Directors here today.

Corporate Learning Group (CLG) recorded net revenue of Rs. 126.3 Cr up 14% YoY in constant currency terms, on an EBITDA margin of 16%. It added 3 new MTS customers in Q2 and expanded business with 2 existing customers. The total number of MTS customers now stands at 38. Managed Training Services (MTS) portfolio contributed 93% to Q2 CLG revenue and the Order intake was up 94% YoY.

NIIT entered into a strategic relationship with Cornerstone OnDemand (NASDAQ: CSOD), a global leader in cloud-based learning and human capital management software, to collaborate in the areas of implementation, business consulting, technical and content consulting, and outsourced administration.

During the quarter, NIIT also announced that it has formed a strategic relationship with EdCast, the award-winning, AI-powered Knowledge Cloud provider with customers that include GE, HPE, Dell EMC, and Accenture. The two companies will collaborate in the areas of corporate training and consulting, learning management and administration, and content management and creation for businesses around the world.

Skills & Careers Group (SNC) recorded net revenue of Rs. 71.4 Cr during Q2, with an EBITDA margin of 3%.

During the quarter, Training.com in association with IIM Calcutta, announced the second batch of the Executive Program in Digital and Social Media Marketing Strategy. Since the launch of the platform in October 2016, Training.com has generated close to 2 million visitors. Training.com has built a portfolio of over 70 advanced courses including marquee programs in Digital Marketing, Data Science and Applied Finance from premium institutions.

MindChampion Learning Systems Limited (MLSL) registered net revenue of Rs. 9.3 Cr during the quarter.

MLSL has been conferred with three prestigious awards at the '3rd South Asia Education Summit 2017,' organized by ICT post. It bagged the 'Interactive Solution Provider' award for NIIT Nguru - IT Wizard & MathPlus; 'Testing and Assessment Tool Provider' award for state-of-the-art NIIT Nguru - Practice Plus and 'Teacher Training (K-12)' award for 'The CTET Advantage Program'.

Now entering its 23rd year, the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards Program is the most prestigious awards program in the industry and is often times called the "Academy Awards" by Learning, Talent and Business Executives.
  • NIIT was named as the Innovation Award winner at the Future Learning 2020 Summit.
  • NIIT was ranked as the Top 20 Companies in Content Development 2017 by Training Industry, Inc.
  • During the quarter, Next Gen courses in Digital Transformation were made available to the Universities in India by introducing globally acclaimed proprietary NIC (NIIT Inside Campus) model in universities and colleges.

NIIT Limited announced the appointment of Mr. Anurag Gupta as the Head - Global Retail Business (GRB) India Operations. In this role, Anurag will be responsible for driving the goals of B2C businesses of NIIT and Channel partners in India, Training.com - a multi-modal learning platform, NIIT Inside Colleges (NIC) India, all verticals of IT, BFSI and Management programs and NIIT.tv penetration in the country.

In May 2003, Anurag was heading NIIT's business unit of West Zone (India), Middle East & North African operations as the Vice President. He was with NIIT till November 2007. In his last stint as the Chief Mentor & Whole Time Director at Ice Creative Excellence Private Limited, Anurag was instrumental in setting up and leading ICE to its current position as a leading media and entertainment training school. He started this initiative as CEO – Education with Balaji Telefilms Limited and subsequently handled this asset as Partner in PE venture, Indus Balaji. Anurag has also served on the board of SMART Q Education Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and Perfect Pin Code Property Services.

An MBA from IMT Ghaziabad, Anurag has extensive work experience of over 25 years across education, engineering and textile industries. He began his career in 1992 as a management trainee with Lohia Star Linger Limited. Subsequently, he worked in senior positions at GKW Limited, DCM Shriram Consolidated Limited and Aptech Limited & Frankfinn Institute of Airhostess Training making significant contributions to these organizations.

NIIT Limited is strengthening its Global Retail Business (GRB) operations to drive its digital transformation initiatives across the country. To this end, it has announced the appointment of Ganesh Krishnamurthy as Executive Vice President & Head – Product Development & Deployment, GRB and Anjali Vaishal, as the Regional Head for Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Pune, GRB. Ganesh will be responsible for designing educational products aligned to the industry needs while Anjali will be key to driving the digital transformation initiatives in Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Pune. Earlier in September, Anurag Gupta had joined NIIT as the Head of its GRB India Operations to drive the goals of the Retail Business in the country.

As Executive Vice President & Head – Product Development & Deployment, GRB, Ganesh Krishnamurthy will be responsible for creating educational products for NIIT's Retail market across IT, Management, BFSI, and other new segments that NIIT identifies and ventures into. He would be engaging with industry domain leaders across verticals to identify future demands in job roles and skills needed and design a product portfolio that addresses the full spectrum of an individual's learning needs, from initial employment through management progression. Ganesh was earlier with NIIT as Senior Vice President & Global Head for Learning Content till 2016. In his last role at Total Environment, he was the Chief Operating Officer leading centralized project management, human resources, and information technology.

Anjali Vaishal, Regional Head - NIIT (Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Pune), GRB will be spearheading the B2C businesses of NIIT and Channel partner engagements for the Southern market. An IIM Bangalore alumnus, Anjali has worked with Wipro across various verticals through major part of her career.

A seasoned technology professional, Ganesh has close to 30 years' experience across many disciplines in IT and Operations Management. In his earlier roles at NIIT he has managed IT education delivery channels, been in product development roles, and led large global delivery teams for clients in different industries. Ganesh was instrumental in leading software development teams through the full lifecycle of product development, implementation and client support, in his past few roles. Ganesh has also managed a large channel of Education partners, focusing on both their business and technical growth.

Anjali comes with over 14 years of experience in Sales & Marketing, Managing Strategic Alliances, and Coaching & Mentoring. It actively engages and empowers all stakeholders, including schools, teachers and parents through a 360 degree online solution to identify learning gaps and improve through guided practice. In a short span of time, we have touched over 55000 students.

The CTET Advantage Program offered by NIIT has been designed to support pre-service/in-service teachers to prepare for the forthcoming CTET and to help them ace the exam. It guides the teachers on taking examinations by providing them with innumerable practice tests for clearing doubts and by conducting mock tests in real test environment. The program also includes workshop in CCE, student management skills and interview skills. NIIT has been successful in implementing 5 cycles of this course by now with over 65% pass percentage as compared to the national pass percentage of 3-7%.

  Department of Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya and NIIT host Convocation Ceremony for students under 'Sponsored IT Program' project

Through this partnership with Department of Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya, we will continue to offer career focused training to the youth of Meghalaya. At NIIT, we have always believed in offering programs customized to the evolving needs of the industry. To this end, we have introduced digiNxt programs to create a talent pool trained in digital skills to meet the urgent needs of the industry.

- Over 1,000 youth from Meghalaya successfully complete NIIT's employability enhancing IT programs, under 'Sponsored IT program of Department of Information Technology, Govt. of Meghalaya' during the year.

Department of Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya in association with NIIT, felicitated students from across Meghalaya who successfully cleared NIIT's cutting-edge certification programs as part of 'Sponsored IT program of Department of Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya', over the last one year. The convocation ceremony was held on 22nd August 2017.

The Chief Guest for the Convocation ceremony Smt. Ampareen Lyngdoh Honorable Minister, Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya felicitated the students. The function was also graced by Mr. Sunil Dahiya, National Head –India Retail Business, Vice President, NIIT Ltd.

The project is an initiative of Department of Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya, and NIIT to enhance employability of youth in Meghalaya. During the last one year, over 1,000 youth from the state have successfully completed select programs under this project and have been awarded certificates from NIIT.

The students were trained in NIIT's cutting-edge programs such as Diploma in Finance & Accounting; Diploma in Business Systems & Information Management; Diploma in Hardware and Networking, Program in Managing Interconnected Network Devices and Network Administration and Server Fundamental. Successful and eligible candidates have been placed in leading corporates across India like Hyundai, Renault, Reliance, Cognizant, Aegis, TCS, Genpact, Infosys, WIPRO, HSBC, Accenture, Airtel, TATA Indicom, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Capital and many others.

At present, Meghalaya has a state-of-art NIIT centre at Shillong with internationally certified faculty who work towards creating a pool of industry ready professionals in the state. After the successful completion of the first batch of Executive Program in Digital and Social Media Marketing Strategy (EPDSMMS) in April this year, we are now delighted to launch the second batch of the marquee program. NIIT has always believed in offering programs customized to the evolving needs of the industry. The digital marketing strategy program in association with IIM Calcutta has been especially designed to groom managers for various roles in digital and social media marketing thus helping create a pool of competent professionals for the industry.

 

  • Executive Management Program with live virtual classes, case studies and presentations by industry experts

IIM Calcutta has announced the second batch of the Executive Program in Digital and Social Media Marketing Strategy, in association with Training.com - a multi-modal learning platform by NIIT, to help build a great career in the field of digital marketing. The six-month program focuses on providing in-depth knowledge on Digital Marketing and Analytics including developing holistic digital and social media strategy, designing success metrics that are aligned to corporate marketing strategy, cross-platform and cross-media digital marketing, digital marketing using Big Data etc. The course will focus on sharing the latest trends, best practices and technologies for effective Digital Marketing.

Mr. Ramendra Singh, Associate Professor of Marketing at IIM Calcutta, said, "We are happy to launch the second batch of EPDSMMS using NIIT's Synchronous Learning Platform. We have joined hands with NIIT to deliver high quality content in management education in a direct-to-device mode, through its multi modal learning platform - Training.com to address the need of the digitally skilled youth in our country."

Prof Indranil Bose, Professor of Management Information Systems at IIM Calcutta, said, "With an aim to offer high quality and futuristic management education, we introduced Avant Garde program in digital marketing in association with Training.com. Having received enthusiastic response for the first batch and we are now introducing the second batch of EPDSMMS. We will continue to work towards creating a pool of professionals trained in digital skills."

The Executive Program in Digital and Social Media Marketing Strategy (EPDSMMS) has been designed to provide a solid foundation for marketers who want to specialize in the Digital and Social Media Marketing. The applicant should be a graduate (10+2+3 or equivalent) or a post-graduate from recognized institute in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (aggregate). The applicant should have a work experience of at least 2 years, preferably in media, advertising, start-up businesses, social or digital media, e-commerce and related domains. The applicant selection will be based on past academic performance and work experience. EPDSMMS will equip professionals to take a wide sweep in digital marketing activities.

EPDSMMS focuses on Digital and Social Media for effective Digital Commerce and Advanced Digital Marketing Strategies along with an introductory module on Marketing Management. The classes will be held twice a week. The program is divided into three modules. The first module would be delivered online on training.com platform over 10 weeks. The next two modules will be conducted as face-to-face classes on IIM Calcutta campus. The two campus visits would be of one-week duration each. NIIT Ltd announced that Mr. Sapnesh Lalla who has been leading NIIT's Global Corporate Business, has assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer of the company from August 1, 2017.

As the CEO of NIIT, Sapnesh's focus would be to drive forward strategies aligned to the requirements of the economy that is witnessing digital disruption.

"Over the last three decades we have built a strong pipeline of leaders. Sapnesh has enjoyed a 25 year long tenure with a number of accomplishments including taking NIIT's Corporate Learning Group to new heights. I heartily congratulate Sapnesh and I am confident that his appointment will give a further thrust to the growth drive of NIIT," added Mr. Thadani.

Sapnesh joined NIIT in 1992 as a Project Lead in the Learning Content Development team and has since held various management and leadership roles in product management, customer support, channel development, sales, and support functions.

Prior to his appointment as CEO, Sapnesh served as the President of NIIT's Global Corporate Business, which constitutes nearly seventy percent of NIIT's total business. He led critical initiatives for the expansion of the company in North America and Europe including significant acquisitions like Cognitive Arts and Element K. Under his leadership, NIIT has grown to become a leading global learning outsourcing solutions provider with its Managed Training Services offering.

Sapnesh is an Electronics and Communications Engineer, and received his Executive Education at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. NIIT Limited conducted a seminar on 'Digital Transformation: Impact, Challenges & opportunities' for engineering aspirants in the city. Prof (Dr.) P.P Mathur, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT University; Dr. Saranjit Singh, Director IEC, KIIT University and Dr. Prachet Bhuyan, Associate Dean T&P, KIIT University were present to grace the occasion. The seminar was addressed by Chief Guest, Mr. Sapnesh Lalla, CEO Designate, NIIT Limited.

The seminar highlighted how digital transformation along with the new technological advancements will impact the IT & Banking industry and the engineering profession in the future. It also familiarized students with the current challenges and the opportunities available in the field of digital transformation. This session threw light on different fields of digital transformation available for students, thereby helping them choose the right field based on their interest and aptitude, and enlightened them on the plethora of career opportunities available to the graduates. NIIT invited all the engineering students from 3rd & 4th year, Management and Academia from KIIT University for the seminar.

According to a recent release by NASSCOM, the skills of the future would be Big Data Analytics, Cloud & Cybersecurity Services, IoT, Artificial Intelligence and many other Digital Technologies. A huge demand is foreseen for roles such as mobile app development, social media, data scientists & platform engineering. According to a McKinsey report on 'Technology Jobs & the Future of Work', digital technologies could contribute $550 billion to $ 1 trillion of economic impact per year in India by the year 2025. According to another renowned survey, 69% of IT leaders expect huge surge in the job market in the next 3 to 5 years due to digital technologies.

Digital Transformation is playing a key role in the industry today. To address the needs of the digitally-skilled industry, NIIT introduced StackRoute, which aims to create multi-skilled and multi-disciplinary programmers who can become key members of high-performance teams in top notch product engineering companies, start-ups and IT firms. DigiNxt, another pioneering product launched by NIIT, as a follow through of StackRoute to service the needs of the Fresh Graduate who wanted to equip themselves with digital skills and thereby improve the chances of getting a good job at a good salary.

According to All India Council for Technical Education more than 60% of the engineers graduating from technical institutes across India remain unemployed. There is a huge variation in standards of technical colleges in the country, a majority of whom churn out graduates who are not employable. While the higher education institutes are grappling with these issues, the skill sets required by the industry has undergone a change. IT now requires higher levels of leading-edge skills like cloud analytics, robotics, process automation, and so on, and engineering graduates of today do not always come qualified.

To help universities and higher education institutions keep pace with changes in the global and local IT industry, and equip its students with the latest, in-demand skills that make them relevant in today's work scenario, NIIT introduced NIC (NIIT Inside Campus), a globally successful on-campus, customized education delivery model that is integrated with the institution's bachelor degree programs, aiming to bridge the technological gap. Through this model, NIIT provides its content, methodology, platform, technical know-how, pedagogy and also support university professors and lecturers by providing necessary training to deliver the latest curriculum. After the completion of the course, the students get a degree from the University/Government and also receive a certificate from NIIT. This model has been implemented successfully in more than 200 Universities and colleges across China, Vietnam and Nigeria.

During his visit Mr. Sapnesh Lalla also met key academia from Bhubaneshwar & Cuttack and discussed the current challenges faced by both academic intuitions & students with the emerging Digital Transformation trends, along with the various new opportunities for the student community.
