For the quarter ending September 30, 2009, NIIT Limited, the leading Global Talent Corporation recorded global system-wide revenue of Rs 555.6 Cr, an increase of 19% YoY and net revenue of Rs. 359.8 Cr, an increase of 16% YoY. The company recorded an EBITDA of Rs 49.6 Cr up 22% YoY. PAT of Rs 26.2 Cr was impacted by higher depreciation in company operations and forex volatility in share of associates’ profits.

The results were taken on record at the meeting of the Board of Directors of NIIT Limited here today.

Individual Learning Solutions recorded 17% YoY growth in Global System-wide revenue, YoY. In this quarter, India enrolments increased by 8% YoY driven by the introduction of full range of programs in the Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) domain and ERP training for Small and Medium Businesses. Enrolments in the IMS courses saw a 43% growth during the quarter. Placements continued to be robust taking the growth to 45% year todate.

In international markets, NIIT further strengthened its position with the announcement of its university tie-up in Nigeria, successful commencement of training programs in South Africa, launch of additional PPP centres in China and the scholarship drive in Nigeria and Vietnam. In the 10th NIIT Nigeria Scholarship about 200,000 students registered for the test, an increase of 100% over last year.

NIIT and IBM entered into an alliance to offer training programs on IBM’s Career Education in IBM Software framework. Starting with curriculum for the Rational suite of software testing and quality assurance, the partnership will be extended in successive phases across other IBM technologies.

NIIT received the Dataquest Top IT Training Company Award 2009 for the 17th year in succession. NIIT, USA, has been honored by TechAmerica Southeast with a 2009 Spirit of Endeavor award for Leadership in Technology Education.

In Corporate Learning Solutions, NIIT recorded a strong performance with 16% growth in e-learning products.

NIIT, USA, has been awarded the Gold for Excellence in E-Learning in the 2009 Learning in Practice Awards from Chief Learning Officer Magazine.

Corporate Learning Solutions recorded strong growth in EBITDA margin, an increase of 492 basis points YoY reflecting the benefit of cost containment actions.

During the quarter, NIIT received the prestigious CIO 100 Award 2009, presented by CIO Magazine, for the pioneering work done on revamping its website: www.niit.com and the Polycom Intelligent Enterprise Award at the Technology Senate 2009 for its Synchronous Learning Technology

School Learning Solutions recorded 76% growth in EBITDA on a higher revenue base.

A record 200,000 Students enroll for the largest IT scholarship test of the decade

NIIT conducted the 10th NIIT Nigeria IT Scholarship 2009 to reward meritorious students enrolling for computer programs at NIIT. The scholarship attracts meritorious students in the IT industry of Nigeria and helps them financially to gain access to world-class IT education. Into its 10th year now, the scholarship has become one of the most awaited events in the annual events calendar of the country.

The Scholarship helps students get skilled for a Global career through training in technology offerings from Oracle, Microsoft, Sun, Cisco and CompTIA. The trainings will be held at more than 35 NIIT locations across Nigeria. This year also marked the 10th Anniversary of NIIT’s presence in Nigeria, with more than 200,000 students registering for the scholarship test held on July 18, 2009, twice over the number last year.

The Scholarships will assist a large number of Nigerian youth to take up IT, and will significantly increase the number of certified professionals in Nigeria.

This year NIIT has strengthened its product portfolio by adding new programmes in all four domains of IT namely; Software Development, Networking, Database Certification and Multimedia Applications. Several new programmes like Microsoft .Net Developer, Sun Java Web Component Developer, Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer, Microsoft Certified IT Professional and Certificate in Linux and Oracle 11g Database Administrator have been introduced at the higher end of technology. NIIT is also offering short term modular programmes for school leavers.

For the first time in Nigeria, students participating in the scholarship had an opportunity to interact with global leaders in Technology through the first NIIT Technology Partner Conclave held on 22nd, 23rd and 25th July at Lagos, Abuja and Benin/Lagos respectively

ICT learning solutions by NIIT received commendation at eINDIA 2009 summit- India’s largest ICT event, for making significant contributions to the society. The Awards were announced at eINDIA 2009 summit, held on 25-27 August, 2009 in Hyderabad. The event brought together ICT experts, practitioners, business leaders and stakeholders of the region onto one platform, through keynote addresses, paper presentations, thematic workshops and exhibitions.

The innovative learning solutions of NIIT received three recognitions out of the total four in the Digital Learning India 2009 Awards category. Scindia School, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh received the ICT Enabled School of the year Award while the Andhra Pradesh Government project for implementation of shared computing technology in 5000 Government schools in the state received the Government/ Policy Initiative of the year Award. NIIT’s prominent project, Hole-in-the-Wall, an initiative to promote Minimally Invasive Education (MIE) amongst the under privileged children, received the Civil Society and Development agency initiative of the year.

eINDIA 2009 Awards felicitates the most innovative initiatives in the domain of ICTs for Development. It seeks to spread awareness about the role of ICTs in addressing social concerns by identifying and felicitating projects that exemplify the kind of implementation that can be easily replicated and at the same time proves efficient and sustainable, especially projects implemented in India and the South Asian region.

It also validates the effect of technical training, skills assessment, student mentoring, and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exam preparation on customer satisfaction, and the application of Microsoft technology to solve business problems.

NIIT announces 7th NIIT Vietnam Scholarship to develop ICT manpower in the country

NIIT has been working closely with the government, academia and industry in Vietnam to foster skilled IT manpower for global talent requirement. We have taken various initiatives to educate and help students get the best IT education. The Scholarship exam reinforces our commitment towards shaping the ICT talent pool in the country.

 


NIIT‘s 7th scholarship exam in Vietnam was held across 31 centers in 14 Cities of Vietnam. The scholarship attracts meritorious students in the IT industry of Vietnam and helps them financially to gain access to world-class IT education.

Scholarships were offered for Master Mind Series Career Courses along with Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) and Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD). The scholarship was merit based, where students were awarded fee waivers depending on their performance in a competitive written test, followed by a personal interview.

To build the overall personality of students, they were be offered courses that have been designed to improve their communications and interpersonal skills. These courses will be available to students online so that they can study at their own pace.

Over the past few years Vietnam has been making a considerable stride in the value chain of IT services. Every year, thousands of IT jobs are left unfilled due to a shortage of certified IT professionals. NIIT aims to address this issue by offering industry relevant IT courses to its students to make them productive from day one.

World Chess Champion and NIIT Mind Champion, Viswanathan Anand visited South Africa and Botswana on a historic 6-day tour, organized by NIIT. The visit by Anand marked the first time that a reigning World Chess Champion visited South Africa

During the visit, Anand had a stopover at Durban, Johannesburg and Gaborone. The tour was organized by NIITin an effort to popularize Chess amongst students in Africa as the game improves concentration and diligences, thus helping students perform better academically.

During his stay, Anand visited Mandeni FET College, where he taught some of his famous chess moves to students and interacted with them.

- Launches the novel concept for the first time in Mumbai at SVDD School, Ghatkopar

Launching a breakthrough initiative that aims at making the vital subject of Mathematics simpler, easier and fun to learn for school students, NIIT installed Mumbai’s first ever ‘NIIT eGuru Math Lab’, at SVDD School , Ghatkopar.

‘NIIT eGuru Math Lab’—a novel concept, enables school students to learn and explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems using tools such as the Geometer’s Sketchpad. This is a dynamic construction and exploration tool that spans the mathematical curriculum from Standard 1 to 12, being made available to Indian schools, jointly by NIIT.

On inaugurating the NIIT e Guru Math Lab, Mr.Inder Kumar Rana, Prof. IIT Mumbai said, “Mathematics has always been considered a difficult subject and favourite of only few. Our present education system does not allow interactive learning but concepts like NIIT eGuru Math Lab will go a long way in making the learning more interactive and interesting for students.”

In addition to providing greater scope for individual participation in the process of learning and becoming autonomous learners, the Math Lab also enables the teacher to demonstrate, explain and reinforce abstract mathematical ideas by using concrete objects, models, charts, graphs, pictures, posters, etc.

- NIIT has been receiving the coveted award consecutively since the inception of the award category

NIIT was conferred with the ‘Top Training Company Award 2009’ by the country’s leading IT publication group Cybermedia, the publisher’s of Dataquest. NIIT has been receiving the coveted award successfully for the last 16 years since the magazine introduced this category.

NIIT received the award for its talent development initiatives across the world, in the year 2008-09. In its annual IT industry survey, leading IT magazine, Dataquest, reports that NIIT has further strengthened its leadership position in the Indian IT training and is 1.5 times the combined revenue of the next 4 competitors. NIIT’s revenue of Rs.1148 crores in 2008-2009 formed 30% of the total IT education market in India.

The Indian IT education market has grown by 13% to reach Rs 3156 crore in FY 09, whereas e-Learning grew 14% with 671 crore in the year. Within the IT training market, Individual training segment grew by 15% to reach 1357 crore and corporate training grew by 11% to reach 1799 crore. Recently NIIT’s innovative learning solutions received three awards in the Digital Learning India 2009 Awards category. An avid believer in giving back to a myriad of communities, especially during times of economic hardship, NIIT adds this program to a long list of innovative outreach opportunities which educate current and future workforces in areas of specialized training.

The five-day program is a free opportunity providing new process, power and marine design skills for anyone currently unemployed who has worked previously in the plant and marine design sector.
