Talent Imperatives for ECommerce Sector

Talent Imperatives for ECommerce Sector

India’s ECommerce market is the eighth largest in the world, and is home to approximately 20,000 ECommerce companies. The industry is a significant contributor to the Indian economy. Owing to the increasing Internet user base and favourable market conditions, the ECommerce industry in India is estimated to reach 350 billion U.S. dollars by 2030, and is set to become the second-largest ECommerce market in the world by 2034.

To tap this exponential growth and address the challenges of seamless integration, Talent plays a critical role - Talent with the right skill sets and mind sets, who can understand the big picture, think innovation and scale, think design, and leverage insights from data to create delightful experiences for end customers and suppliers.

We have designed a thought paper: Talent Imperatives for ECommerce Sector to delve deeper into the following:

  • The landscape of ECommerce market in India
  • The unique organization structure that facilitates the end-to-end digital business model
  • Talent necessary to meet their growth agenda (especially, the digital mindset and skills that are required at leadership level, and the competencies required of managers)
  • Case studies of outcome driven; custom designed interventions aligned with business requirements

SHIFT to the new normal of learning

SHIFT to the new normal of learning

Even as the global economy redefines the new normal, resilience and innovation will define success for the post-pandemic business world.

The current driver of competitive advantage is an extremely talented workforce that is agile, resilient, and innovative.

Business leaders have a great opportunity now to SHIFT to the new normal of learning.

This would require a deliberate change of practices and processes, a shift in the mindset, and an investment of time and effort. However, paybacks can be relatively high.

Towards a #FullStackFuture

Towards a #FullStackFuture

Covid-19 has almost overnight made work from home a new norm.

Distributed IT teams are looking for full-stack developers – as they are more productive with higher utilization.

Embracing full-stack thinking helps enterprises enable small teams with self-sufficient skills to take digital transformation engagements.

Globally, product teams and digital engineering teams are increasingly demanding only full-stack resources.

Talent critical for India’s ECommerce growth, finds NIIT survey

Talent critical for India’s ECommerce growth, finds NIIT survey

Mumbai, September 26, 2022: As the Ecommerce players across the country gear up for the upcoming festive season, NIIT Limited, a leading global talent development corporation, today announced the launch of its thought paper titled "Talent Imperatives for ECommerce sector". Based on deep conversations and a survey with several Ecommerce leaders, across Product management, Program management, Engineering, New initiatives design, Operations, Real estate expansion and Sales, this paper highlights that Digital roles have already crossed Sales as the most On-demand job function in the Ecommerce industry, and Talent is the key differentiator in accelerating the growth.

The paper reiterates that in addition to the core Digital roles, business, and operations roles, such as Product Manager, Digital Marketer, Catalog Manager, and Supply Chain manager, extensively use the knowledge of Digital technologies to create great customer experiences and drive business growth. Unlike traditional retail companies, where Digital Commerce is created as a standalone vertical or centre of excellence, the contemporary ECommerce companies have 100% digital operating model. In such an integrated model, there is overlap and cross leverage of skills across verticals.

The paper also reports findings from a survey around the key skill sets and mind sets that are the most critical for ECommerce professionals across functions. These are as follows-

Talent

Additionally, the survey reflects that the top roles that drive Digital transformation and must be developed further are Leaders, followed by Product Managers and Category Managers.

Speaking on the thought paper and its findings, Bimaljeet Singh Bhasin, President, Skills, and Careers Business, NIIT Ltd. said "India's ECommerce markets is poised for exponential growth over the next few years. Our paper highlights talent as the key differentiator for accelerating growth. To orchestrate a seamless workflow across functional verticals, the workforce needs a blend of functional as well as digital skills. NIIT has incubated multiple initiatives over the last few years to specifically address the growing demand for highly-skilled and contemporary technology and digital professionals in India. DigitALL by NIIT is an initiative that has helped organizations across IT Services, Digital Products, Global Captives, Large Banks and Financial Companies, and Consumer organizations build high-quality tech and digital talent. Our programs impart contextual digital and data skills to non-tech (business and operations) roles to enable them to drive digital businesses."
