NIIT to provide computer education to 600,000 students across 400
schools
Patna, September 05, 2008: Government Schools in Bihar
received a unique gift on Teachers’ Day from the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister,
Shri. Sushil Kumar Modi who flagged off the
ICT@School project at Mahant Hanuman Saran High
School, here today. This is one of the 400 Government Schools where NIIT, the
leading Global Talent Development Corporation will provide computer and computer
aided education to 600,000 students, across the state.
NIIT has partnered with Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation
(BELTRON) to implement this project that entails inculcation of computer
education in Government schools across rural Bihar.
The Scheme that forms a state version of the national scheme of
“ICT@Schools” has been planned and envisioned by
BELTRON who in turn has been helped and assisted by Bihar e-Governance Services
and Technologies (BeST) Ltd. BeST are the consultants to Govt. of Bihar for this
project.
Speaking at the function, the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri.
Sushil Kumar Modi said, “The Government of Bihar has a vision of
creating ‘Computer Literate Bihar’. Our initiative with NIIT will enable
computer education to reach the remotest corners of the state, empowering the
students with skills necessary for a successful future”.
“Computer education will place us alongside other developed states
in the country,” added Shri. Suhil Kumar Modi.
As part of the initiative, NIIT has set up computer hardware, software,
connected peripherals for computer system, and will offer computer education,
computer based education services, and highly trained Instructors for classes 8
to 12 in specified Secondary and Higher Secondary Government Schools on turnkey
basis, for a period of three years, in Bihar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. L. Balasubramanian, President-School Learning
Solutions, NIIT said, ''We are honoured to partner with the Government
of Bihar in their initiative to promote computer education in schools. At NIIT,
we firmly believe that computer education is a must for the youth in today’s
knowledge economy.
''NIIT programs in Government schools will open new vistas of
learning and provide a level playing field to students in rural areas to bring
them at par with their counterparts in the metros'', added Mr.
Balasubramanian.

Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary-HRD Department, Govt. of Bihar; and Shri. Aloke
V. Chaturvedy, Secretary-IT & Science & Technology Department &
MD-BELTRON, were amongst other dignitaries present at the launch event.
NIIT’s holistic computer assisted learning model includes setting up of a
network of 10 computers and one server in each school, backed by a UPS and
generator to enable continuous power back-up, along with courseware and training
programs, thus bringing a large number of students from remote corners of the
states, into the IT fold.
As per the agreement with BSEDC, NIIT has also set up a dedicated Help Desk
in Patna to log in calls and enable smooth implementation and running of the
project.
NIIT’s computer aided education programs provide effective learning
environment for children, with special tools to promote critical thinking and
analytical skills leading to student centric learning. The programs are designed
to enable students acquire skills that are necessary for success in the
knowledge economy.
NIIT’s program in Bihar Government Schools will also provide an opportunity
to the school children to participate in a number of extra-curricular activities
and national level contests such as the NIIT MindChampions Academy Annual Chess
Championship and Digital Art Festival.
The addition of these 400 schools has further strengthened NIIT’s
leadership in the School Learning Solutions space. NIIT’s school learning

million children in 12 Indian states.
