NIIT bags new orders to impart computer education to 1.9 million school students in Bihar and Maharashtra

New Delhi, June 05, 2008: NIIT, the leading Global Talent Development Corporation has received the mandate for providing computer and computer aided education to 1.9 million students in 900 State Government Schools in Maharashtra and Bihar.

As per two back to back orders bagged by its School Learning Solutions Business, NIIT will train nearly 1.3 million students in 500 State Government Schools in Maharashtra, and 600,000 children in 400 Schools in Bihar, in the next five years.
The addition of 900 schools has further strengthened NIIT’s leadership in the School Learning Solutions space. The new program uniquely positions NIIT to become the only training company in India to offer comprehensive ICT education in over 6000 schools, reaching nearly 3.4 million children in 11 states.
Sharing details of the new programs, Mr. L. Balasubramanian, President-School Learning Solutions, NIIT said, “We are honoured to partner with the Governments of Maharashtra and Bihar in their initiative to promote computer education in schools.”
NIIT is working closely with Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation (BSEDC), and Director of Education (Secondary & Higher Secondary), Government of Maharashtra to implement computer education in the schools.
“NIIT programs will open new vistas of learning and provide a level playing field to school students in rural areas to bring them at par with their counterparts in the metros”, added Mr. Balasubramanian.
NIIT’s comprehensive learning solutions for schools includes setting up of computer hardware, software, connected accessories for computer system, computer education, computer based education services, and highly trained Instructors, for classes 8 to 12 in specified Secondary and Higher Secondary Government Schools on turnkey basis model for a period of five years, in the two states.
NIIT’s computer assisted learning model will provide a network of 10 computers and one server in each school, backed by a UPS and generator to enable continuous power back-up, thus bringing a large number of students from remote corners of the states, into the IT fold.
In Maharashtra schools, NIIT will provide computer aided learning solutions for Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and English, as well.
As per the agreement with BSEDC, NIIT will also provide a dedicated Help Desk in Patna to log in calls and enable smooth implementation and running of the project.
NIIT programs are designed to enable students acquire skills necessary for the knowledge economy and their pursuit for higher studies and gainful employment. NIIT’s computer aided education programs will provide effective learning environment for children, with special tools to promote critical thinking and analytical skills leading to student centric learning.
