NIIT students and software professionals to gain from a stronger
relationship
Bangalore, March 13, 2007: Sun Microsystems India Pvt.
Ltd. and Asia’s largest IT trainer, NIIT, have expanded their relationship to
offer training in the growing Open Source Computing, through Sun Solaris
Training programs. As part of the alliance, NIIT will offer specialized training
programs through its network of education centers as well as specialized Solaris
labs to be set up in metros, to several thousand students and software
professionals in the country.
Through this alliance, NIIT has access to the latest Sun technologies,
tools, technical resources and curricula on Java & XML, and Solaris OS
System administration.
This initiative is the latest in Sun's drive to provide academic developers
with the educational tools and resources they need to cultivate important IT
skills, participate in today's global economy, and contribute to the innovation
of new technologies.
New offerings from Sun-NIIT alliance:
As part of its NetworkLABS curriculum, NIIT will now offer
Training and Certification on Solaris 10 Operating System (OS) to students, thus
enhancing their skills and giving a comprehensive knowledge of this innovative
operating system.
- For Undergraduates -- As part of the ongoing efforts to
continuously enhance learning offerings, and bringing the latest Technologies to
its students, NIIT will now integrate the Solaris 10 OS Training and
Certification into its NetworkLABS curriculum, aimed at career aspirants keen to
join the expanding IT Infrastructure Management Services industry. Students will
get to work on the new functionality of Solaris 10 OS with features like optimal
utilization, relentless availability, unparalleled security and extreme
performance, thus enhancing their employability. These programs would be offered
as modular specialization programs in the NetworkLABS curriculum.
- For Working professionals -- The high-end Solaris 10
curriculum will be integrated into NIIT’s CATS (Curriculum for Advanced
Technology Studies) offerings. This will allow professionals to ramp up Solaris
10 OS skills.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Karie Wilyerd, Vice President & Chief

Following the success of the joint initiative in the first year, Sun and
NIIT will explore the possibility of expanding this partnership to offer Java
and Solaris technology programs to students in China and other emerging
markets.
NIIT and Sun also look forward to providing specialized, hi-end training
programs on Solaris, Identity Management, Java CAPS aimed at Enterprises to
evolve skills and make them ready for the next generation of technology
innovations. NIIT would leverage its strengths in Instructional Design and
Delivery capabilities to offer these hi-end programs. Both organizations are
also looking at working together in developed markets through NIIT-ElementK
enhanced capabilities to provide training solutions for enterprises.
