- State-of-the-art NIIT Yuvastar Career Development Centre at
Civil Lines, Delhi, to provide job-oriented training to the underprivileged,
underserved sections of society
New Delhi, August 11, 2011: NIIT Foundation (NF), set up
to provide world-class education and training to the under-served communities,
today unveiled state-of-the-art NIIT Yuvastar Career Development Centre at
Khairati Clinic, No 2, Raj Niwas Marg, Near Shah Auditorium, Civil Lines,
Delhi. The centre was inaugurated by Mr. P Rajendran, Chief Operating Officer,
NIIT. Also present on the occasion were Mrs. Raghubans Bahadur, Past-President,
Mrs. Aruna Jain, President, Ms. Anita Gupta, Honorary General Secretary, and
Mrs. Purnima Rai, Honorary Treasurer, from Khairati Clinic Society and Ms. Sapna
Moudgil, Implementation Head NIIT Foundation. The space and infrastructural
support for the CDC will be provided by Khairati Clinic Society.
NIIT Yuva Star, the Career Development Centre (CDC) will serve as a
vocational training centre in the Civil Lines area, providing English, Computer,
and employability skills to under-served youth in the age group 15-25 years. The
eligible youth will then be placed in jobs in various industry sectors such as
retail, BPO, and IT earning salaries in the range of Rs. 5000- Rs. 10,000 per
month.
Speaking on the occasion, P Rajendran, Chief Operating Officer,
NIIT Ltd. said, “I am delighted to unveil this
state-of-the-art centre at Civil Lines. This is yet another initiative by NIIT
to unleash the power of youth from urban slums and contribute to development of
the nation.”
NIIT Yuva Star is an initiative by NIIT Foundation to empower the youth in
urban slums. This is the 20th such centre to be established in Delhi since 2008.

To shape the mandate, NF has commenced a number of programs that would
positively impact the underprivileged of the country through various educational
interventions. The intent of NF is to better understand the education and
employability issues at the grassroots level and build sustainable training
intervention models. NF makes critical interventions towards upgrading the skill
base and employability of marginalized youth - in urban slums and rural
areas.
Over the last 3 years, NF has impacted over 20,000 youth and placed over
85% of eligible candidates. The key projects under way:
- District Learning Centers for rural unemployed graduates (DLC)
- Career Development centers for urban slum youth (CDC)
- N-Reach program for capacity building and accreditation of NGOs (N-Reach)
- Technology Center for urban slum children 6-14yrs
