NIIT announces the launch of ‘Vish Come True’, National Chess Competition for school children


  • Winners to get a chance to play Chess with World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand
  • Competition to reach out to 1500 schools covering 2,00,000 students from classes 6-10
New Delhi, February 13, 2009: In an endeavor to encourage intellectual stimulation supporting improved learning of school students, Global Talent Development Corporation, NIIT is holding a National Chess competition for school students to showcase their talent in the game of Chess. Through this competition, NIIT aims at promoting Chess in around 1500 schools covering over 2,00,000 students.
Students participating in the competition can register by logging on to www.niit.com/vct. These students will have a choice to select any of the 5 given dates- March 08, March 15, March 22, April 05 or April 12 to come to NIIT centre and play the game.
The competition will be held in NIIT centres, covering over 300 locations all over India. The event will provide an opportunity to 30 shortlisted national level players to play online Chess with World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand. These players will be selected after rigorous rounds at Centre level and Regional level. Every NIIT centre will select around 3 schools with one winner qualifying from each NIIT centre followed by 3 winners qualifying from each region.
‘NIIT Vish Come True’ is aimed at promoting the game of Chess in schools which helps in improving the concentration of children and their decision making ability, thereby enhancing their academic performance.
Commenting on this initiative by NIIT, World Chess Champion, Viswanathan Anand remarks, “Chess stimulates mental and intellectual development of children. It not only challenges their mind but also enables improved academic performance.”
 “‘Vish Come True’, is yet another initiative by NIIT to boost the performance level of students”, he added.
The competition will be organized during summer break of schools to ensure that the children are productively engaged even when they are out of school.

At NIIT, it is our constant endeavor to accelerate the performance of school children both through technology oriented courses and competitions like these.”
NIIT has provided varying levels of recognitions and rewards for both the participants and schools, ranging from a certificate of participation, chess sets with Vishy’s autograph to trophies with his autograph.
