“NIIT making engineers ‘job-ready’ for IT industry”: NIIT COO
Students awarded GNIIT title at NIIT Graduation Day in Bhopal
Bhopal, June 7, 2007: Asia’s largest IT trainer, NIIT organised the 25th Graduation Ceremony for students in the city today. Addressing students on the occasion, Mr. P. Rajendran, Chief Operating Officer, NIIT said, “The Indian IT-BPO industry continues to be a sunrise career destination for the youth. The sector, which has been growing higher than any other industry segment in the country and generating large number of jobs, is likely to keep its place as the Number One employer over the next few years.”
At the convocation ceremony, 19 top performers of the GNIIT programme were awarded titles by Mr. Rajendran. They were among the 116 Graduating students who gathered at Ravindra Bhawan at Shamla Hills, Bhopal, along with their parents, to receive the titles. The students have successfully completed one of the most comprehensive, industry-endorsed IT curriculums—GNIIT, that offers one year’s industry training through Professional Practice (PP).
As per estimates of NASSCOM, there will be a demand for 850,000 IT services and 1.4 million ITES-BPO professionals by 2010. The Indian IT industry continues to look at premier institutes such as NIIT to help fill the large number of vacant jobs.
Additionally, an estimated two-thirds of 300,000 engineers passing out of colleges in India, every year, need re-skilling to be readied for demanding IT jobs. Addressing the demand-supply gap, the training pioneer has launched a comprehensive portfolio of offering for the engineers and IT graduates under its ‘Edgeineers series’, to make them ‘job-ready’ for the IT industry.
“Since the introduction of NIIT Edgeineers last year, nearly one lakh engineering and IT students have benefited from these programmes. In fact, 51% of NIIT students placed last year were engineers. This reflects the industry readiness of NIIT students”, said Mr Rajendran.
The NIIT Edgeineers series offers a range of international certification programmes in alliance with global IT giants like Microsoft, Oracle and Citrix, thus giving the students with requisite knowledge to qualify for global certificates in emerging technology platforms. A significant component of this series is ‘ANIIT’, which is a special accelerated programme for engineering and final year students pursuing their master’s in science.
NIIT is training 700 Students from 3 centres in Bhopal city. Last year, over 45 students from NIIT Bhopal were placed with leading organizations such as Colgate Palmolive, Convergys, Airtel, ICICI, Newgen Softwares.
Mr Rajendran congratulated the students at the NIIT Graduation Day which blended seriousness with joy. Dressed in the traditional ‘Graduation’ robe and hat, NIIT students took oath followed by ‘Hat Rolling’.
