NIIT to offer Software Entrepreneurship program along with University of Nigeria Nsukka

 

- NIIT enters into an alliance with University of Nigeria Nsukka to train its students

Nigeria, July 15, 2009: NIIT Ltd, leading Global Talent Development Corporation and Asia’s largest IT trainer has entered into an alliance with ‘University of Nigeria Nsukka’ to offer Software Entrepreneurship program to its students.
The module is based on Java technologies and will implement Capstone project which will cover case studies on various sectors like hospitals, hotels and schools. The Software Entrepreneurship program to be offered through online mode of NIIT Element K is meant for graduates who aspire to become entrepreneurs in the developing IT industry in Nigeria.
Designed for a period of 12 months, the program is aimed at providing students with practical knowledge of software business and acquainting them with the phases of entrepreneurship for start-up companies. The course also includes mentoring of business plans.
Speaking on the alliance, Mr. G. Raghavan, President, Individual Learning Solutions, NIIT Ltd. said, “For entrepreneurs to succeed in the software sector it requires combination of technical skills and entrepreneurial know-how. With the launch of this course NIIT aims at producing successful entrepreneurs in Nigeria to serve the global IT industry. This course will provide students with additional knowledge and tools to develop successful and sustainable ventures.”
Speaking on the association, Dr. Chris Bolu, Director for ICT and Innovation, University of Nigeria Nsukka said, “We are very happy to tie-up with NIIT for this course. We believe that this course will create immense opportunities for entrepreneurship as many young students aspiring to be entrepreneurs in the IT industry are deprived of the know-how. We are confident that the course will provide them with adequate knowledge and the right guidance for setting up their enterprise.”
The course will cover fundamentals of Programming, fundamentals of Programming using Java, Java 5: Advance Programming and Java 5: Enterprise Programming.
Students pursuing this course will also have an access to the vast learning resources include IT courses, business courses with realistic business simulations addressing and supporting the diverse job functions within organizations. Learners will be able to obtain certification exams in various IT fields via www.elementk.com from Brainbench, which is a leading provider of computer-based knowledge certifications.
Recently NIIT and CII, India's apex industry body had entered into an agreement to help create ICT infrastructure and foster International Software Talent in the African continent. As part of this capacity building and skill development endeavour, NIIT and CII will share high quality education resources from India and involve other appropriate players from the Indian industry to help Africa develop human capital for the global IT industry. NIIT will provide relevant IT curricula in line with international IT trends, and content for IT, soft skills and entrepreneurship for training in Universities and Colleges in Africa. CII on the other hand will facilitate internship with the Indian industry.
NIIT ventured into the African continent over a decade ago by setting up its first IT education centre in Botswana in 1997. For nearly a decade now, NIIT has been involved in creation of skilled ICT manpower in the continent and has trained nearly several thousands of students till date.
