NIIT District Learning Centre, Chhindwara completes 5 years of empowering local talent to chart successful careers

Chhindwara, January 09, 2013: NIIT Limited, leading Global Talent Development Corporation, today celebrated the 5th anniversary of the model District Learning Centre (DLC) at Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. A function organized to commemorate the occasion was graced by Mr. P. Chidambaram, Hon’ble Union Minister for Finance, Government of India; Mr. Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban Development & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India and Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, NIIT Limited.
During the occasion, Mr. P. Chidambaram, Hon’ble Union Minister for Finance, Government of India, launched industry-aligned training program in Banking and Finance by NIIT, at the DLC Chhindwara centre. Corporate partners like Wipro, TCS, HCL, Infosys, who have rendered their support to DLC Chhindwara by recruiting successful students from the centre, were presented with mementos as a token of appreciation.
DLC Chhindwara was established in 2007 by NIIT under the aegis of NIIT Foundation, a not-for-profit education society, set up to provide world-class education and training to the under-served communities. DLC aims to nurture talent from semi-urban Indian cities to cater to the demands of a growing economy faced with a large pool of available but unemployable local talent.
Harnessing high-end technology interventions like SLT (Synchronous Learning Technolgy) to deliver cutting-edge learning curriculum to remote locations, DLC has over the last five years, launched several short term courses that prepare students for local jobs available with leading companies. Students of the centre are trained to be readily employable within a period as short as six months or upto a year, through the right mix of technology, training, industry inputs and experienced faculty.
While launching the industry-aligned training program in Banking and Finance by NIIT, Mr. P. Chidambaram, Hon’ble Union Minister for Finance, Government of India, addressed the students and congratulated DLC Chhindwara for helping youth from semi-urban and rural areas gain access to meaningful employment opportunities in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance industry) sector.
Mr. Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban Development & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, appreciated the efforts of the industry for coming forward with innovative initiatives such as DLC, to nurture the large untapped talent pool in rural & semi-urban India. He hailed NIIT DLC as a model to follow by others in training the rural youth to enhance their employability.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, NIIT Ltd. said, “NIIT District Learning Centres empower youth from rural and semi-urban areas to join the mainstream talent pool.”
The launch of Diploma in Banking​, a 6-month program, familiarizes students with the BFSI industry (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance industry) in India in an engaging and informative way. The course covers an overview of the entire industry, key players in each sector, major products and services offered by BFSI sector. It enables the student to understand the concept of money and banking, the role of banks, various verticals in the banking industry, various products and services offered by them and the channels used to deliver the same. Along with technical skills, the course also equips the students with critical soft skills such as English communication, Professional skills, Business communication, Customer service & Selling skills.
Diploma in Banking is backed by placement support on successful completion of the program sub- ject to meeting the academic and placement norms.
DLC Chhindwara provides the latest and most relevant content and curriculum to make its students industry ready. Selected students undergo full-time training and have access to resident faculty who offer expert guidance and mentoring through online faculty resources, backed by regular visits from other faculty. The centre provides intensive training programs to students to enhance their IT skills, communication skills, professional life skills and business etiquettes, thus making them ready for employment in IT and non-IT companies.
DLC students are offered industry relevant courses like Certificate Program in Basic IT, Certificate Program in J2EE Technologies, Certificate Program in Dot Net Technologies,
Certificate Program in Programming and Infrastructure Management and Cisco Certified Network Associate Program (CCNA).
Beyond offering these highly skilled programs, the DLC enables learning for its students by providing various facilities, such as Video-interactive sessions, well equipped reading rooms, specialised CISCO labs, and Guest lectures by subject matter experts from the industry.
Till now, over 2000 students have successfully completed their courses from the two DLCs in Chhindwara and Barkuhi, and eligible students have bagged lucrative assignments with various coveted organizations.
