NIIT partners Government of Wuxi, China to develop IT talent
Bangalore, February 19, 2008: NIIT, leading Global Talent Development Corporation and Asia’s largest trainer has entered into an agreement with Wuxi Government, China to set up IT training centres and offer training programs in the Chinese city, Wuxi. As part of the agreement, NIIT will work closely with the Wuxi Government to develop human capital for the emerging IT industry, in the region.
A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed in the presence of Mr. Yang Weize, Party General Secretary, Wuxi China and Mr. G. Raghavan, President-Individual Learning Solutions, NIIT at the “Wuxi—Bangalore Business Seminar on Service Cooperation”, here today. A senior delegation comprising of business leaders and government officials from Wuxi, Peoples Republic of China are visiting the country to develop bilateral relations with Indian counterparts.
During the seminar, the Wuxi Municipal Government also announced the appointment of NIIT’s G Raghavan as ‘Chief Consultant’ for Wuxi City. In this prestigious role, Mr. Raghavan will work closely with the local government to help them identify and build the requisite IT infrastructure that will foster talent pool in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yang Weize, Party General Secretary, Wuxi China said, “We are committed to develop Wuxi as the leading outsourcing centre in China. We are delighted to find a partner like NIIT to support us in this mission. NIIT’s long presence in China and their pioneering experience in India will help us in developing a large pool of IT human resources in Wuxi”.
According to Mr. G Raghavan, President-Individual Learning Solutions, NIIT “Our tie-up with Wuxi Government is a significant enhancement of NIIT’s decade long commitment to develop IT talent in the fast growing Chinese market.
I am honored by the faith reposed by this appointment. It is indeed an acknowledgement of NIIT’s global experience and its applicability in China in the field of IT talent development.”
NIIT has also signed another MoU with Wuxi New District in Mumbai recently, with similar objectives for the district.
Through these alliances, NIIT will set up IT training centres and offer its industry recognized training programs, while the Wuxi Government will provide necessary support for enabling preferential policies at national, provincial and municipal levels.
The IT training market in China is expected to grow at 24 per cent CAGR, in the next two years and looking at China’s goals in the IT outsourcing industry alone, there is a need to create about 5 million software engineers by 2015.
